A Chama is an informal cooperative society that is used to pool funds and invest these savings in Kenya. These chamas, or “micro-savings groups”, are sophisticated but mostly exist outside the banking system. An estimated 650,000 Chamas exist, managing a total of KSH 450 billion (US$4 billion) in assets. Tribbe.io is building the first DAO in Kenya for Chamas. This is the TribbeDAO.
